Trailers are a great tool for transporting cargo and can carry anything from loose materials to small vehicles. However, if you only need your trailer for a short period of time, or don't have the funds to buy your own just yet, renting a model is a great option! For tips on trailer rentals and how to choose the best model, take a look at our helpful article below.

Tow Vehicle

The first thing you’ll need to consider when renting a trailer is the capabilities of your tow vehicle. Does it have a hitch? What are its towing limits? Different trailers, such as gooseneck trailers, may require unique hitches that your vehicle can’t support. Your tow vehicle may also not be strong enough to haul both the weight of your trailer and your cargo. Before you sign on the dotted line, be sure to check your owner’s manual for your vehicle’s towing limitations.

Accessories

Different trailers may come with different accessories that will make it easier to load and unload cargo. For example, some models may come with pre-installed ramps, others with detachable ones, and some may instead have a lifting mechanism so no ramp is required. Before you decide to rent a trailer, be sure to consider which features are best equipped to help you transport your cargo.

Tie Downs

Unlike ramps, your trailer won’t come with any tie-downs to help keep your items in place. Before you rent your trailer, check to see what type of tie-downs it may require. For a majority of models, bungee cords or rope will be fine, but an open bed trailer may require you to purchase a few straps instead.
